Hockey Girl

For those of you who think Sage is just a one-sport-wonder, think again.  Our girl has started playing ice hockey as well.  Sage and her friend Meg, have been playing in a developmental league in Natick this Spring.  She is learning stick handling and hockey skating moves.  The class is about 25% girls.  No contact yet, but they do scrimmage at the end of each sesssion.

Soccer Academy Star

Sage earned her first star at soccer academy this afternoon.  This achievement star has been a long time coming.  Sage finally mastered the inside hook and the feint dribbling moves.  She can now wear this star on her new soccer jersey starting this Fall.

Memorial Day Chain Gang

Three days vacation means lots of time to work in the yard.  New grass was laid, edging cut and eight yards of bark mulch were distributed around the house.  Now we are ready for summer bar-be-que and tennis....  and a holiday weekend to enjoy it all.

Weston Rolls Stars

Memorial Day weekend started off poorly as Weston crushed our Sudbury Stars.  It was a battle between first place teams, but the faster and more technically sound Thunder had their way all game.  Sage played goalie in the first half.  It was going well until one of her own defenders scored on her.  Not much she can do to anticipate that.  Another goal came on a nice passing cross that materialized after a scrum for the ball.  Sage tried to get the save, but it was just out of her reach.
The Stars made it 2-1 early in the second half as Sage made a long pass which led to a break-away goal by our striker.  However, the Thunder quickly responded with two soft goals.  Our goalie in the second half did not have one of her best days.  The Stars are now in second place with three tough games left.  Next stop is away to Millis on Saturday.  The last home game is Saturday June 6th at 10:30.

Rayne Dreams of Bicycle

Rayne rode her first two wheeler this weekend.  The bike was a hand-me-down from Aline.  Rayne cannot pedal yet, but she is very happy to cruise the streets being pushed by Mom or Dad.  rule number one is to always wear a helmet.  Ray prefers her ski helmet over a bike one.

Sage Saves the Day

Sage's Sudbury Stars ran their unbeaten streak to five games with a 2-2 tie against second place Milford.  Down 2-0 early, the Stars rallied to get to 2-1 at halftime.  Sage manned the goal in the second half and shutdown the Red Hawks.  Her play allowed the team to rally for the equalizer.  Once it was tied, the Red Hawks threw everything they had at Sage.  Twice the Red Hawks had break-away runs on Sage.  The first one hit the right post.  The second one came with two minutes left.  It was a rocket heading for the upper left post.  Sage leaped and tipped it off the upper bar and away from the goal.  The crowd went wild.  It was a very good tie capped off with the first Popsicles of the season.

Happy Mother's Day

Mother's Day breakfast was a picnic at the Old Grist Mill.  Kristin had all her favorite foods...  dunkin coffee, dunkin egg sandwich, dunkin munchkins...

Stars Crush Ashland, Move to First Place

The Stars have steadily climbed into first place after their opening season defeat.  The game Saturday was a mere formality.  Ashland was a very weak team and the Stars rolled them 7-1.  The coaches changed the line-up such that every girl was playing a new position.  It was great for each player to have a new experience.  Sage had to play the game in cleats that were too big as she left hers at school.  Good thing the team did not need her scoring prowess.
Next game is 10:30 Saturday 5/16 vs Milford at Haskell.  It will be a very competitive game as Milford tied the Stars 3-3 previously.

Stars back in Rhythym

Sage's soccer team came to life shutting out a very good Southboro team 3-0 tonight.  It was Sage's best game of the year.  Her high energy and focus fed good plays.  She scored early in the first half on a break-a-way.  After shaking one defender she blasted the ball into the upper corner. In the second half, she anchored the defense with a great effort.  Twice she stepped into a shot that the goalie was not going to stop.  She also rocketed a goal kick out to the striker who almost scored.
This moves the Stars to 2-1-1 and in sole possession of second place.  Next game is Saturday against Ashland in Sudbury.

Stars Fade, then Rally then Fade

Sunday soccer featured a clash between our Sudbury Stars and the Milford-Hopedale Red Hawks.  The Stars started slowly and quickly gave up two goals after defensive lapses.  Sage played goalie and had some good stops.  More importantly, she managed the defense and lead her team her vocally.
The start of the second half continued with the girls going through the motions.  Sunday afternoon on a weekend when Sage rode 25 miles in the MS Bik-a-thon, seemed to be a tough time to play.  Then with ten minutes to go in the game, the Stars came alive.  Sage, playing middie, assisted on the second goal which tied the game and then scored the third to take the lead.  Milford refused to go away and rallied for the equalizer with seconds to go.  Given the way the game went, a 3-3 tie is a fair score, but it was one that got away.
The Stars are now 1-1-1.  Next game is Monday night in Southboro.

Rayne's Big Picnic

Rayne, being the ever social butterfly, had all her friends over the house for a picnic. Morgan, Campbell, Bobby, Bella and Meredith all came over for a little playground, kitchen time and good snacks. Pasta and meatballs were the featured entree.

Happy Third Anniversary

The third wedding anniversary was celebrated this week with a little dress-up. All of us, including Sage, got into our wedding outfits for Wednesday night. Hard to believe that Sage's size 8 dress still fit. She even wore her crown of flowers from the big day.

Stars Win First Game of Season

The Stars evened their record at 1-1 with a 2-1 defeat of Millis on Thursday night. Sage played middie in the first half and had several nice runs with the ball. She assisted on the first goal with a nice cross pass to her Striker.
In the second Sage anchored the defense. They turned every Millis attempt back and preserved the victory. She took two corner kicks and dropped the ball right in front of the net, but the Millis defense was able to clear the ball out of the goal box.
Games keep coming as the team plays Sunday and Monday night. Next weekend's game is home if anyone is looking for a Saturday morning activity.
