Killington Ski and Rain Weekend

Skiing in March has risks. Hopefully there is enough snow and the mountain stays open. Never did we consider that it could be 60+ degrees and a hot sun. Saturday skiing at Killington was 'the best ever' according to Sage. It was closer to surfing than real skiing. The picture of the trail above is Superstar. This was a double black diamond that Sage skied confidently.
Too bad that weather pattern did not hold. Sunday brought the proverbial April showers, which were followed by pouring rain and thunderstorms. Thankfully there was a health club with pool and outdoor hot tub, plenty of shopping and a local brewpub to visit.
Rayne joined the crew for the first time. She partied with Aliya and Moju all weekend. Plans are to have her hit the slopes next winter.

Can Carrots Swim?

By now, everyone is wondering... well can they swim? And what about mushrooms and peppers? Sage's science project has addressed the question that enquiring minds want to know... which fruits and vegetables have a density that is less than the buoyant force of water. Sage presented the physics of buoyancy, but also entertained the crowd with stories of Archimedes and the Chinese prodigy Cao Chong. You will need to ask Sage if you want the whole story. She did a great job on this year's project.
Maybe next year Dad will finally get to build that volcano he saw in the Brady Bunch.

Rayne and her Tu Tu Too!

Rayne has been dancing around in her pink tu tu.  Her favorite move is spinning, but generally loves to prance about.  She may be following her big cousins as dancers.

Battle of the Undefeated

Sage's indoor team clashed with the Framingham Flash on Saturday afternoon in a battle for first place in the league.  Both teams were 5-0 and crushing their opponents.  The Flash quickly went up 2-0, by the Firecrackers rallied back to take leads of 3-2, 4-3. and 6-5.
Sage played middie most of the game, which required running and running and more running.  She had three sweet assists with beautiful passes to her wings.  The Firecrackers could not hold the lead and the Flash eventually tied it 6-6 on a penalty kick.  Now we have to wait until the playoffs to see which team is really better.
Sage suffered her first soccer injury late in the second half.  She took a hard hit ball off the top of her hand.  Sage was astonished the referee called a penalty on her (one of three called on Sage during a very aggressive game).  With the hand hurting, she came out and iced it.  After seeing the score tied, Sage went in for one last rotation and played through the pain.  It was a very gutsy effort.  Final verdict on the hand was a significant bruise, but no break.  Just goes to show you should stick with your feet in soccer.

Whistler

Finally a ski trip west of Maryland... after almost 30 years of skiing, I can rightfully say that I have skied a western resort. Kristin and I escaped for a weekend at Whistler in British Columbia Canada. We were greeted with fresh powder both days and truly experienced the thrill of first tracks. Whistler is hosting the alpine skiing events at next year's winter. We skied the men's downhill run and it looks terrifying.
All the pictures can be seen in the online album:

Sage goes to Washington

Sage was off touring our nation's capital on a visit with Grammy and Gramp.  The travelers were down in Baltimore to celebrate CC's sixth birthday.  The trip to DC included the White House, Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial.  Sage had just built a replica of the Lincoln Memorial, so it was even cooler to be in the real one.
The weekend also included pools, parks and pancake breakfast!

Early Season Park

Posted by PicasaWith temps soaring into the 50s, we had our first park picnic of the year. Rayne was very excited because all the toys in the sandbox were no longer frozen to sand. Parks are going to be a huge part of summer '09.

Sage Winter Recital

Highlight of Sunday afternoon was Sage's Winter recital. She continues to take voice lessons with her Gigi, Claire. This was the first recital where Sage was allowed to sing two songs. It marks the transition from what the little kids do versus the big kids. Her first song was called My Dream and Sage dedicated it to her Mom. Her second song closed the show. Thank You for the Music brought the house down. ABBA never sounded so good.

Sage is wearing a new winter dress from Grammy. It was very fashionable. Pay close attention to it during the twirl. No wardrobe malfunctions here.

Firecrackers roll on

Sage's indoor soccer team remained perfect in league play on Saturday. The Firecrackers won 4-2 over the other team from Sudbury. Sage played well and notched another goal and an assist. Her goal came by beating a defender to win the ball in the left corner. She then dribbled and fired for the far right corner of the net. This team was much faster than our girls and may be trouble later in the season. The team is now 3-0 and continues to play well.
