Weston Thunder Booms Stars
The rain finally stopped, but the Weston Thunder rolled over the Stars 2-0 in the first game of the year. Sage's outdoor team put in a good effort, but they were outplayed by a fundamentally stronger team. Weston used superior passing and speed to create havoc all game. Sage started as a middie and played well. She had one breakaway up the far side only to be dropped by a pursuing defender. The foul resulted in a free kick just outside the penalty box. She struck it well be the ball sailed left of goal. Sage manned the net in the second half. On several occasions her defense failed her and she ended up going one on one with the opposing striker. Sage stopped six shots, missing only one that hit the top cross bar and deflected in. The girls learned their new league is much harder than last fall. Hopefully this inspires everyone, including the coach!.
