Sage goes to the Dogs - Cinderella Style

At the end of the year Fairy Tales presentation, Sage's fourth grade class put on a revised version of Cinderella. Sage played the role of the dog, changed to a man by the fairy god-mother. Her lines were challenging, but she delivered her "woof woof, ruff" without reading from the script.

Dynasty Beckons

Monday night was a good night for soccer in Sudbury. Based on Sage's strong play in the outdoor season and her high tryout scores, Sage was promoted to the Sudbury Dynasty. This is Sudbury's second team out of eight. Sage's tryout scores were 11th out of 106 players. She worked hard to earn this.
In related news, Dad was also promoted and will be the head coach of the Dynasty.

Stars Extinguish Fire

Sudbury Stars closed the Spring season with a solid drubbing of the Framingham Fire on Saturday. Coming off the tough loss on Monday and five players involved in birthday sleepovers the night before, the coaches did not know what to expect of the team. After a sluggish first ten minutes, the Stars took control. Play shifted to the Fire's goal, but Framingham held tough earning the 0-0 tie at halftime. After some oranges and gatorade, the Stars broke through. 1-0 quickly became 2-0 when Sage burst through the defense. Having only the goalie to be she rocketed a shot for the top of the goal. The thunderous kick was 1" too high and smashed into the top bar. Sage's teammate, collected the rebound and knocked it in. Not sure Sage can get credit with the assist, but it was sweet. Sage moved to defense to lock down the game. There she had several long clears that set her striker up for shots. She also had three strong corner kicks, dropping the ball right in front of the goal. The sheer executing of the corner kick play made the coaches and Grampa very proud.
The Stars finished third in the division, just one game out of the lead. Now it is off to the end of the year tailgating BBQ at the Breakers game on Sunday night. Sage will learn her new team for Fall '09 in late June.

Noyes Art Show - MOOOO Cows

Friday Night Lights in Sudbury brought the elementary school art school. The theme was Cows and featured artwork from all classes. Sage created De'calf'inated and Count Moo-cula. Rayne enjoyed the cow mask and the delicious popsicles afterwards. Sage's ant mask was also on display... ants... brings back memories of Sage's snacks.

Stars Stunned by Southboro

In a crushing defeat, Southboro rallied back from a 3-0 deficit to win 4-3 with a goal as time expired. Sage scored the first two goals early in the first half. Her first was a great reflexive kick as their goalie tried to chip the loose ball away. The second came after a fake and spin move. This left Sage with just enough space to fire a shot from the top of the goal box into the back of the net. The second half was a different story as the Stars could not stop the relentless attack by Southboro. Losing as the whistle blew only made the defeat harder to accept. Tears flowed everywhere.
Sage has one last game on Saturday in Framingham. They could still tie for the division, but they need some help in the other games.

Successful return from Odyssey for Sage

Off to Odyssey

Odyssey 2009 is away.  Sage left this morning from Peter Noyes School for her three day Odyssey to Camp Bauercrest and Joppa Flats.  We will not hear from her until late Friday, but in this case, no news, is good news.  As you can see, the Sudbury Odyssey red sweatshirt is a badge of honor amongst the fourth graders.

Soccer Tryouts

Sage and over one hundred of her closest friends went through two nights of tryouts for BAYS Fall 2009 Soccer.  Sage's u11 group is the largest Sudbury has ever experienced and will field eight travel teams.  The tryouts started with chaos and ended in darkness.  At least the mosquitoes were well fed.
Update for day two:  Sage played with the top team and scored a beautiful goal.  After faking the defender out of her cleats, Sage blasted a shot to the far corner of the goal.  She also played well in net, stopping one of her old teammates who was charging on a break-away.  Now we wait until early July for the new roster.

Stars Rally Late for Win in Millis

Hot sun, small goals and a crazy yellow and black striped soccer ball could not stop our Sudbury Stars on Saturday.  The team traveled to Millis for a match against a very pesky and defense orientated team.  The first half was a scoreless draw, even though the Stars dominated time of possession and had several scoring chances.  A late goal finally came.  Sage was playing middie and drove the ball up the right side.  She attempted a cross to her striker who was running full speed toward the goal.  The pass was a little too strong and the Millis goalie charged to make the save.  Instead of covering the ball, she tried to kick it away.  Fortunately for the Stars, the goalie kicked it directly into our striker and the ball bounced into the net for the goal.
Sage played well in the second half, running tirelessly as she supported both offense and defense from her middie position.
Big week for Sage as she has tryouts for Fall soccer Monday and Tuesday night.  No game this coming Saturday, as it has been moved to Monday night, 6/8 at 6 pm in Sudbury.
